- Look back into history, very few corporations or small businesses for that matter ever worried about workers. Until the government and unions forced employers to increase benefits, pay and safety these employers hardly did anything to help out working people.

- You can see this coming. As gas prices go higher, access to mass transit, along with a more compact or urban work zone will become the only way to develop you career and increase your work opportunities. Cities in the east like Boston, NY, Philly, etc.

- DUDE - if the government is doing such a lousy job why not, eliminate social security, medicare and the military budget and be done with it. Federal spending would drop by 90%. But I would bet your state budget would go through the roof and the overall economy would collapse as a result.

Ralph: I was fortunate enogh to make 225k last year (took 25 years and a lot of education, risk and hard work to get there). In federal, state, and local taxes, I paid aobut 110K, and thanks to AMT, cannot deduct home mortgage, charitable donations etc. This is what you have to look forward to when your income increases. Oh, and everyone thinks you are an evil bastard because you worked your way up. And, your SS income will not go up corresponding with your prior income, the police do not come to your call any faster, the roads are not better, etc. Your taxes support everyone else. Yes, we need to share, but if the government wants more, then I'm less inclined to grow my business further which means I will create fewer jobs. This country grew based on priciples of capitalism. THe erosion of these priciniples will have adverse consequences.
